Self-Hosting, Cybersecurity, and Civic Tech for Social Good

I’m a civic technologist passionate about self-hosting, cybersecurity, and open technology as tools for social good. With a strong background in networking, containerization, and privacy-focused infrastructure, I work to build secure, accessible, and community-driven tech solutions. I’m actively involved in local civic tech initiatives, using my expertise to support grassroots organizations, improve digital equity, and enhance collaboration between tech and social impact groups. Whether it’s strengthening digital security, optimizing self-hosted environments, or bridging the gap between technology and community needs, I’m always looking for ways to apply tech for positive change.

Interests

I’m passionate about self-hosting, cybersecurity, open-source technology, and civic tech—leveraging tech to enhance security, privacy, and community collaboration. I enjoy building and securing infrastructure, optimizing network performance, and exploring automation tools that make systems more resilient and efficient.   I’m currently focused on expanding my knowledge in password security, CISSP, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Kubernetes, cloud technologies, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). I’m particularly interested in how these areas intersect with cybersecurity, automation, and scalable infrastructure, and I’m always looking for ways to apply them to real-world challenges. I’m also passionate about protecting aging and vulnerable populations from scams and exploitation, using technology and education to help safeguard their security and privacy. Experiences

My journey into civic tech and community-driven projects was sparked by a profound experience at a blanket exercise workshop, where I learned more about Indigenous experiences. When I asked how I could help, I was met with a simple but powerful response: “What can you do to help?”   That moment shifted my perspective—I realized that I could use my technical skills to support and empower others in the community. Since then, I’ve been focused on applying technology, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure to initiatives that make a meaningful impact, whether it’s helping nonprofits, improving digital equity, or protecting vulnerable populations from scams and exploitation.
